When William Hiles aka Jepson died, 4 October 1926, Annie Mary Jepson and Rose Ann Hiles, née Mallinson, made a statutory declaration to the Deputy Supt. Registrar, Ethel M. Mellor, that William Jepson was really William Hiles. This was 36 years after he had abandoned Rose Ann and their two children c. 1890.
